Power to the image
From hard news to international sports, the D6 answers the demands of professionals who need the ultimate combination of speed and accuracy. With Nikon's most powerful AF system yet and fast, real-time image transfer, this full-frame DSLR will deliver incredible shots of defining moments. Without fail.
Create and deliver without constraint
Tenacious focusing performance
How do you cover it all? A dedicated AF engine that’s faster than ever before. An arrangement of 105 all-selectable cross-type sensors with 1.6x higher density coverage than the D5. Group-Area AF with more custom settings for unparalleled tracking. An improved scene recognition system for next-level subject acquisition. The D6 gives you more ways to anticipate and catch the action than ever before.
Nail the winning shot
An increased range of selectable Group-Area AF patterns let you optimize your AF setup for any job. Avoid fixed obstacles, such as tennis nets, in your line of sight and nail more clean shots of the action.
Prioritise the eyes
The D6 is the first DSLR to let you prioritise focusing on your subject’s eyes when using Auto-Area AF or 3D tracking. Combined with the broader, high-density coverage, you’ll catch that look of determination.
Anticipate the action
With the D6, you can define the focus starting point when shooting in Auto-Area AF. Information from all 105 focus points is used to acquire and track your subject: you’re free to concentrate on the framing.
Excel in any light
Tracking is phenomenally precise, even under the toughest lighting conditions imaginable. AF sensitivity down to -4.5 EV at the central focus point, and -4 EV at all other points, lets you follow the action into the night.
Extreme precision and speed
When the action’s fast and you only get one chance to land the shot, the D6 lets you harness burst rates of up to 14 fps with full AF/AE. The camera’s re-designed mirror mechanism significantly reduces bounce for a sharper, more stable viewfinder image.
Silent power
You can shoot full-resolution images at up to 10.5 fps with AE tracking in Silent Photography mode. Silent time-lapse movie shooting and interval timer photography are also possible: images are taken using the electronic shutter, preventing wear and tear on the mechanical shutter.
High-speed frame capture
Want to show the moves within the moves? In Movie Live View, the D6 lets you shoot 8 MP still image sequences at 30 fps and 2 MP still image sequences at 60 fps. Full AE tracking is available at both frame rates.
It starts with a great shot
When you’re working down to the wire, the quality of the files coming straight from the camera is critical. The D6 delivers exceptionally clean images, and a new Auto White Balance algorithm delivers phenomenal colour accuracy and clearer skin tones. Dynamic range is exceptional at both high and low ISO values. Inside the stadium or out on the slopes, the winning shot is yours.
Real-time views
Follow the action in real time, even when shooting at high frame rates with a long lens. The 0.72x optical viewfinder with OLED elements lets you attain pin-sharp subject confirmation, with no delay.
Roll and pitch indicators display in the viewfinder.
Recall settings
Unpredictability is nothing when you can adapt to any situation quickly and seamlessly. Pre-programed recall settings now include those for white balance, AF patterns, and AF lock-on.
Versatile card slots
You can simultaneously record JPEG+ and JPEG images to the dual slots, which accept CFexpress or XQD cards. Easily allocate small or medium JPEGs to the secondary card slot ready for faster image transfer.
Select, confirm, transfer
More ways to select images for transfer give you the edge when every second counts. Use the primary card slot to confirm focus in the larger JPEG+ image, then switch to the second card slot to transfer small or medium JPEGs quickly. Unwanted images can be deleted from both slots simultaneously.
Filter images
Copyright, ratings, and voice memos can be saved and then applied to images via simple upwards or downwards flick movements. When sorting images, you can delete images and their voice memos, or voice memos only. During playback, you can filter files according to protection, rating, and transfer status.
Prioritise the winning shot
Send your best shots to the top of the queue when transferring images to a PC via wired LAN or via the camera’s Wi-Fi connection. You can prioritise images during playback using flick operation or an FN button.
Bluetooth
Upload images to social media right from trackside. When connected via Bluetooth, the camera can transfer images to a smart device with the SnapBridge app installed. The smart device can also be used as a simple remote.
Wi-Fi
Connect to a computer via the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi. Or use the compatible WT-6 Wireless Transmitter to connect to a wireless network over a distance of up to 200 m. The WT-6 supports wireless LAN IEEE802.11ac, and can be used as a remote receiver in HTTP mode.
Best speed in the field
Connect a network cable to the camera and transfer images directly to a PC or FTP server at blazing speeds. The camera’s wired LAN supports 1000BASE-T standard and achieves approx. 15 % faster communication than the acclaimed D5.
Adapt to any venue
Higher-resolution displays offer improved visibility and readability. Ergonomic improvements free up space and keep key ports easily accessible, even when shooting with a wireless transmitter attached.
The D6 is also compatible with trusted Kensington locks, so you can keep your cameras secure when working with multiple set-ups.
Take on any environment
From extremes of temperature and humidity, to the camera knocking against the tele-lens while you carry your gear. The D6 retains the robust body that made the D5 such a firm favourite among pros. When you’re shooting in a situation in which the last thing you want to worry about is your camera—you don’t have to.
A system to count on
When you go where the news is, you want to be sure your system won’t let you down. Onsite or at a service centre, Nikon Professional Services is there to support you with technical advice, repairs, and even loan equipment. From major sporting events to big cultural moments.
